Over the 30 years since, ISC has developed an understanding of the problem of hot spots; what causes them and what to do to stop them. Hot spots are caused by the movement of hot air. ISC and its suppliers have spent the last 30 years establishing, and constantly improving, methods and resin based sealants to control these air movements and replacing the damaged fragile insulation material while the furnace is at full wind producing iron.

more productive and cost efficient since no downtime is
By checking the temperatures before setting the injectrols,
you drill small diameter holes where actually needed.
- By using the ISC special crack finding detection sealant first, the
repair is more thorough as you can identify and eliminate one of
the points that can contribute to the hot air movement. By following
up the injections with additional thermal readings, same day
progress can be tracked.
- Often there are several passageways that the hot air is moving
and as you seal one up then the other is more identifiable. So
by injecting and taking temperatures while the repair is proceeding
you can adjust your plan of attack accordingly. When off-line,
conventional grouting is a 'hit and miss' attempt at best and you
have no way of checking for cracks until after the fact; and often
the welded nipples, with larger holes, create more problems than
- ISC material comes prepared for injection so the consistency
remains the same. Other grouts are mixed with water and
often look like soup being poured in as opposed to our resin
based fiber material that does not shrink or expand so no
extra pressure is being applied to the refractory.
By injecting on-line the blast pressure works to help fragile
areas by keeping positive pressure from the inside which
helps disperse the material where needed.
Injecting out of 5 gallon pails allows the pump to be closer to
the repair area keeping the technicians closer together for better
safety communications and less chance of applying too much
pressure. ISC uses only enough pressure to get the material into the air flow.
Most importantly is the experience and knowledge of the
placement and timing of the injection especially on the stoves
and hot blast main connections.
